IT Support Specialist
Location: Knoxville, TN (travel to Kingsport, TN, < 20%)

Position Summary
Join our small, cloud-centric team supporting an engineering design company. You’ll handle day-to-day end-user tickets, prepare and deploy laptops, and help keep devices compliant between two office locations in East Tennessee.
Responsibilities

Frontline help desk (Tier 1): Password resets, MFA prompts, basic M365 support (Outlook/Teams/OneDrive), printers, and common Windows issues. Document and track helpdesk tickets and escalated when needed.

Device setup & lifecycle: Receive/inventory hardware, apply asset tags, wipe/reimage reused laptops, run Autopilot enrollments, verify BitLocker and compliance before hand-off.

Intune assignments: Deploy app/software packages and updates; monitor status and rerun failed installs.

Vendor coordination: Open and track support tickets with software vendors, provide logs/screenshots, join remote sessions as needed, and document outcomes in ticketing notes.

Compliance: Work from checklists to confirm encryption, patch status, and screen-lock settings; assist with simple evidence collection (screenshots/exports) for CMMC.

Accounts & access (templates): Create/disable users and group membership using standard request templates in Entra ID (Azure AD).

Knowledge & documentation: Update quick guides and how-tos as you learn; keep asset records accurate.
Required Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
-
0–2 years in IT support (internship, service desk, school help desk, or equivalent hands-on experience).

Comfort with Windows 10/11 basics, Microsoft 365 apps, and common troubleshooting steps.

Customer-friendly communication, note-taking, and a habit of following checklists/SOPs.

Willingness to learn Intune/Autopilot and security basics (encryption, patches, least privilege).
Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field;

Bachelor’s degree
-
Exposure to Intune/MEM, Autopilot, Entra ID, Defender for Endpoint.

Basic PowerShell (copy/paste scripts, simple edits).

Azure/Microsoft certs (AZ-900, MD-102, SC-900) or CompTIA A+—or interest in earning within 6–12 months.

Any familiarity with GCC-High/CMMC concepts.
Work conditions
-
Role requires the ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 40 pounds as part of regular job duties

Travel < 20% between Knoxville and Kingsport, TN

Occasional after-hours maintenance windows

Work will be performed in a Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) environment; adherence to security protocols and handling requirements is mandatory

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening

Must be a U.S. Person (citizen or lawful permanent resident) in order to meet ITAR compliance requirements
Success metrics
-
Close 15–20 Tier-1 tickets/week average with solid notes.

>90% first-contact resolution for common issues (password/MFA, Outlook, printer).

Asset records updated within 1 business day of device moves/issuance.

Hourly Rate: $20–$24/hour base rate
